A rising senior will be nominated by their music teacher(s) to receive a professional-quality instrument in honor and memory of founding Board member David Necker.
Award Description:
David’s deep passion for music, architecture, travel, and giving back to his community has left an undeniable mark on those around him. This award is given to a rising high school senior who embodies the qualities that David valued most—community, dedication, kindness, and a lifelong dedication to music. David was an original board member of Bringing Music to Life, with his wife, Anne. His contributions have had and will continue to have a major impact on this organization.

The Exceptional Musician Award is a tribute to a student whose dedication, talent, and vision for the
future reflect David's values. This award is for a rising senior who has not only excelled in their musical discipline but also embodies the spirit of community, respect, and lifelong learning. Through their commitment to their instrument, education, and the broader community, they honor the legacy of a person who believed sincerely in the transformative power of music. The recipient will be awarded an advanced-level instrument to keep as their own.
Scholarship Criteria:

A high school music ensemble director nominates ONE junior student and provides a background statement on how this student has supported the ensemble and why they nominated them. Please keep in mind that this award is intended for a student who might not otherwise be able to secure an advanced-level instrument on their own.

The student will then complete an application consisting of:

A list of ensembles and awards received, both music- and non-music-related
-
5 short essay questions (one paragraph per question)

A 3–5-minute excerpt or piece demonstrating their musicality
